The magnesium ritual for better sleep

Why magnesium sits at the heart of so many wind-down routines, and how to build one in ten minutes.
Magnesium is involved in hundreds of processes in the body, including normal muscle function and normal psychological function. Many of us fall short of the recommended intake, especially when we are stressed or training hard.
A simple evening ritual works on two fronts. Take a gentle magnesium glycinate supplement an hour before bed, then massage a magnesium lotion or balm into tight shoulders, calves and wrists. The scent and the slow movement signal to your body that the day is over.
Keep the ritual consistent. The same time, the same order, the same scent. Within a week or two, your body starts to expect sleep when the ritual begins.
If poor sleep lasts more than a few weeks, or you snore heavily or feel very sleepy in the day, speak to your GP.
